Behind The Scenes
December 5, 2012

I started dancel lessons at age 3 and loved every minute of it (except this one costume that was bright red tulle and SO itchy, but tha’ts another story). For any lover of dance, The New York City Ballet is kind of a huge deal. And for someone who knows how hard it is, I am even more in awe of every little move they make. When I saw this article in The Cut I knew I had to show it to everyone. Thank you, Henry Leutwyler, for sharing these photos with New York Magazine. Plus, ballet dancers always get away with wearing the coolest stuff… and they are the inventors of the sock bun!

Rebecca Minkoff: Spring 2013
September 11, 2012

I’ve been blown away by all of the print in this years Spring 2013 collections so far. There are definitely stand out designers that pushed the limits and made some gorgeous pieces that will surely be on all of our must have lists. Maybe it’s the cutie son of hers or that she made this “Call Me Maybe” video, but Rebecca Minkoff really can do no wrong in my eyes. Spring 2013 obviously didn’t disappoint. I love the fresh, easy silhouettes paired with a more complex pattern throughout. This first look is killer.

Wisdom For Your Wednesday
August 29, 2012

Happy Wednesday! Do you have a long weekend? Today is my Thursday because we have this Friday off and I can’t wait for the weekend. Lately I’m spending a lot of time writing my goals out on paper. Some get crossed off and re-written and many will never be achieved, but I always keep one written down so I don’t forget: “be the best version of yourself”. This illustration by Molly Jacques (who is fantastic) captures just that. Get out there and be a first rate version of yourself today and everyday, because you’ll never get anywhere attempting to follow someone else’s lead.

I went shopping yesterday very quickly after work. I typically don’t step foot in H&M in Manhattan considering it typically involves quite a lot of pushing and waiting. The windows drew me in though and I ended up finding a lot to try on. Now, typically my H&M experience also involves hating 3/4 of what I take into the dressing room but this time I was pleasantly surprised. Let’s just say there is a lot of pattern and a lot of peplum and the fit is exponentially better (most notably that I can actually wear their dresses in public because they fit me length wise). Score!

One Shirt // Three Ways
July 26, 2012

Eventually I’ll start doing outfit posts but right now I’m way too busy to even think about when I would make time to force Andrew to take endless photos of me. Plus I should probaby start saving up for the large bribe I will have to give him! So for now, you’ll get one shirt three ways via collages. Here are the three ways I’m wearing my chambray shirt.

Chambray shirts will always be my favorite. I have a Lucky Brand one from back in the day that I remain completely loyal to, but I’m loving this option from J. Crew. The greatest thing about this shirt is that you can really pair it with anything, and wear it in any season. Whether it’s with black jeggings and a military esq parka in the fall, under a thick wool sweater in the winter, tied at the waste with a maxi for spring, or paired with brightly colored or patterned shorts for summer… it works.

Look One: Whoever says the “Texas Tuxedo” is nonsensical and ugly can stop following my blog right now. I love the idea of denim with denim. Obviously, it needs to be paired with “dressy” accessories. I went with a high black and gold heel that is pretty darn formal and should seemingly never go with ripped denim (but they do, I promise) and of course a McQueen clutch. Now, this isn’t for everyone. It actually takes a serious amount of confidence to go strutting down the street in a Texas tuxedo, but I freakin’ love it.

Look Two: Don’t the neon shorts just explain themselves? I love colorful bottoms and whether it’s the Gap neon boyfriend shorts I’ve been wearing non stop this summer or colored denim, I’m in. Chambray just does something to neon that makes it that much better, and a black and white striped scarf can never be wrong when paired with neon yellow!

Look Three: Last but not least, the maxi skirt. Whenever it’s a really hot, or I’m being lazy about getting dressed, my go to is always a maxi skirt and a sock bun. The good thing about maxi skirts is that you can wear them with a simple v-neck American Apparel tee or a chambray shirt like this and it will still look elevated and purposeful. Most of my maxi’s are high waisted so I would tie up the shirt and belt the skirt with a skinny metallic belt.

Apartment, Finally
July 23, 2012

After seeing my initial inspiration post, and another one, and then my inspiration boards you guys all already know what the plan was for our new apartment. Maybe it’s because I prepared you guys for a month and a half but I feel obligated to share photos (or maybe I just really want to). Typically I’m a perfectionist that wouldn’t allow photos until I actually felt like something was 100% finished. But, I love this living room! It’s far from finished and even farther from perfect, but it came together nicely and it was nice to relax here last night after the initial moving day stress was over. Granted, the other rooms are even less finished. Our bed is on the floor, we are using boxes as night stands, and nothing is where it should be. BUT we have each other, and a super cute couch that I can’t get over. Things will slowly start coming together and it’s going to be a really exciting time for us. I’m sure to be posting more photos on instagram soon, so you should follow me @glitterandgoldblog.

Weekly Faves III
July 20, 2012

We’re moving TOMORROW and I can’t believe how quickly everything came together. I’m super excited for this new step in our lives and can’t wait for it to begin. I’m also pretty happy with how the living room is coming together. We don’t have the budget to buy everything under the sun (and it wouldn’t be fun if we did) so it’s great when we can score an awesome tv stand, two white and gray chevron pillows, and a black and white striped area rug at Home Goods to mix in with our gorgeous West Elm framed coffee table. It’s the little things. I hope Hoboken is ready to welcome us tomorrow, because I’m ready to be there!

It’s been a little while since I’ve done a weekly fave post so I definitely owe you guys one! Here are some of my favorite pins from this past week:

Wedding Wednesday
June 27, 2012

My grandparent’s 65th wedding anniversary is coming up in July. My Grandma (who is 91 and yells in French) and my Grandpa (ex U.S. Navy Special Ops and semi pro football player) are the perfect example of a lasting marriage. I always love looking at photos of my Grandpa in his Navy days, but they have always been very secretive about their wedding. They won’t tell us the exact date of their anniversary, but they were kind enough to send over some photos after a afternoon of questioning from my Dad and I. I had to share them with you because they are completely amazing. I wish I could go back in time and watch from afar. Wasn’t my Grandpa handsome?

Raindrops Keep Falling…
June 22, 2012

I got stuck in this crazy tsunami/monsoon/hurricane thing twice today. Feels like these clouds are following me! Let me tell you, I do not remain chic when I am caught in pouring, heavy rain even despite an umbrella (the second I opened it it bent completely in half). Don’t you wish you looked like this after a rain storm comes passing through? I do.
