The Governors Ball was in New York over the weekend, and if you were anywhere near New York on Friday when a monsoon came through you know how much of a muddy mess it was. There were a lot of ladies who took style chances despite the crazy weather and I salute them… I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have been able to do the same! Check out some of my favorites from NY Mag. I’ll admit it, I’ve really been dropping the ball on the blog. Honestly, I’m feeling a bit lost and un-focused lately and I’ll put this out there and say I’m not sure where I want this blog to go next. Outfit posts lasted a whole two seconds considering my phobia of photographs of myself, and I find it hard to open up to you guys and get on a more personal level. Then I read a post on Kendi Everyday where she admitted she was feeling depressed and suffering from panic attacks. She has millions of readers and she went that deep, I have very few and I can’t even talk about my wedding without feeling like it’s “TMI”. Well guys, we’re going to take this to a new place… sometimes. In between the typical posts I’m going to make sure to inject some of my life, some of my real joys and some of my real problems. I hope this will take Glitter & Gold to a new level and allow you all into my life a little bit more.
First things first: my fear of photographs comes from a deeply rooted self-image problem. Lately, I’m finding myself leaning more and more towards jeans every morning when I search for something to wear. It’s been really hot, and I have a really long walk to work… I’m looking for no fuss. Lately, my jeans have been of the slouchy, ripped, and cuffed persuasion. Here are some of my favorite ways to style jeans. Not gonna lie, you have to switch up washes, mainly because you don’t want your co-workers to think you’re wearing the same pair of pants every. single. day. Switch flats for heels, silk tops for thin sweaters, and vintage tees for tailored blouses.
Not me, that’s for sure. As soon as we have a few good spring days here in New York, I know the summer weather isn’t far behind. Although I wish we could have a longer spring, it just hasn’t been in the cards the last few years and I doubt it will be this time! As other girls break out the short shorts, you can find me in cropped pants and dresses. Although I don’t typically have a problem with my no shorts rule, there are a few ladies out there who make me second guess myself. Are you a shorts girl or not?
Ah Paris Fashion Week, you slay me. As if Paris wasn’t magical enough on its own, just add some of the most fashionable people from around the world and you’ve got an event I want to be a part of. Here are some of my favorite street style photos from Paris Fashion Week, there’s some serious awesome happening here.
Did you take dance lessons when you were little? I did for about 12 years and although I preferred jazz and tap as I got older, I loved listening to French tapes teaching me to pirouette. What really struck me today when I saw this first image is that when I was little I used to wear that tutu everywhere I possibly could. I loved how it looked when I twirled and I loved how I couldn’t put my hands down because it would get in the way. It’s no wonder why I ended up the way I am today… fashion is always greater than comfort, right?! So how do you channel that inner ballerina now? At five or six years old it was perfectly acceptable for me to run around the grocery store in my pretty pink tutu, but how does the 24 year old me pull that off? Leave it to Catherine Sheppard of The Life Styled to show us all. It may be feathers v. the traditional tulle but it totally serves my fashion purposes. If I were her I’d be wearing that baby everywhere!
Wow, I stumbled upon this via Refinery 29′s Pinterest and couldn’t believe my eyes. That cute little outfit was L.L. Bean Signature (seriously)… and they have a whole lot of other cute little outfits I’m super excited to share with you guys. An awful lot of them are on sale too. Get on over there before everyone realizes what I did yesterday!
I love the 4th of July, and it’s not just because of my birthday situation (see more here). I love red, white, and blue, I love BBQs, I love being patriotic, and I love sundresses, stars, and stripes. I always wear red, white and blue on the 4th. This year, I chose a blue and white striped maxi and red nails (it’s hot here) but I’m all about this outfit below. To me, it’s the perfect 4th of July outfit… there are even anchors on her shirt. I’m obsessed! Happy 4th you guys, I hope you enjoy your day and remember the reason we get to live in such an amazing country. It is INDEPENDENCE DAY!

Can’t believe it’s almost July already, my birthday is on Tuesday! I love that my birthday is the 3rd of July. It means that I will always have off the day after if it falls during the week. If I was having a birthday party, this is what I would do. For some reason I’m really feeling pink today. I won’t be having one this year, but maybe next year I’ll pull out all the stops!
Looking for a new pair of sunglasses is a much harder task then I anticipated. I’ve been fawning over two pairs of Rebecca Minkoff sunnies for weeks now, but there are so many other options out there. I can’t get over pair number six, don’t they look like Angry Birds eyebrows? Anyway, if you’re on the hunt for new sunglasses this was a great start for me. Plus, a couple of pairs are $9.99 so you can’t really go wrong!
I got stuck in this crazy tsunami/monsoon/hurricane thing twice today. Feels like these clouds are following me! Let me tell you, I do not remain chic when I am caught in pouring, heavy rain even despite an umbrella (the second I opened it it bent completely in half). Don’t you wish you looked like this after a rain storm comes passing through? I do.
